At EuroBLECH 2008 Salvagnini presented, for the very first time, the fiber laser source.

In this type of source, the resonator is composed of an optical fiber.

The fiber laser is a new technology in sheet metal cutting that offers remarkable functions and performance and it can be considered as an interesting alternative in some types of production.

The main advantages that make fiber lasers highly competitive on the market are: reduced consumption, high efficiency and simplified optical path. For instance it has been proved that on thin blanks, the fiber source requires 50% less power to achieve the same performance as a CO2 source. In addition, the guaranteed efficiency of a fiber laser is higher than 25%, with respect to a CO2 laser where it is on average lower than 10%.
